APPROACH

The overall silhouette, its harmony with its surrounding and nature of the Project designed in Kurucesme

Divan Kurucesme is located in the most popular shoreline of Istanbul with the most impressive Bosphorus view. The overall silhouette, its harmony with its surrounding and nature of the Project designed in Kurucesme, one of the most important and historical neighborhoods of Istanbul have been taken as its essential features. In the restoration project prepared within this scope, existing historical walls and trees have been kept intact. Utmost attention has been given to the effect of the new design especially to the Bosphorus silhouette. DVN KURUCE SME has been formed as a new cluster of vaults while the existing underground areas, cisterns, retaining walls, terrace gardens formed from the shore elevation towards the upper elevations were kept as they are. The 1000 person multi-purpose hall for events has been inserted in the existing fabric.

GAD Documentary Films

A short documentary film on the architecture of the Divan Kurucesme, Istanbul by GAD Architecture led by Gokhan Avcioglu, and presented by architecture critic Gokhan Karakus. The film explores the architecture of this building located o the coastline of the Bosphorus Strait of Istanbul. The architecture critic Gokhan Karakus guides viewers through the historical Ottoman fabric on the hillsides of the European side of the city in Kurucesme. Karakus critically notes the architectural strategy of adapting new architectural forms and techniques to create a contemporary language for architecture on the historic Bosphorus. The documentary's photography emphasizes the design, environmental, historical and ecological features of the Bosporus and coastal context that is the subject of this documentary on one of GAD's most important architectural projects of the 2020s.
