The GAD Foundation has engaged in a strategic partnership with the Japanese based FANUC Corporation the world’s largest manufacturer of automation products and services such as robotics and computer numerical control systems. The first phase of the collaboration with FANUC was the training of young architects from GAD at FANUC’s training facilities in Istanbul. Architects were exposed to FANUC’s range of CNC machines and robots used in factory automation and industrial robotics. In the coming year The GAD Foundation will work with FANUC to develop programs to implement robotics in the design and construction process.
The GAD Foundation has initiated a long-term strategic program to develop the digital fabrication capabilities of the architecture and construction sector in Turkey through a combination of strategic partnerships between academia, industry and government. The aim of the program is to increase the capabilities of design and construction with robotic and digital fabrication.
The GAD Foundation has submitted a detailed project grant for the development of a Design and Construction Technology Laboratory to the İstanbul Kalkınma Ajansı/Development Agency of Istanbul, an agency of the state government of Istanbul. The Laboratory to be developed in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University is intended to provide a fabrication facility open to architects, schools and private companies in architecture and construction based in Istanbul.

Designs for brick and cements walls built by robots by GAD FOUNDATION
The GAD Foundation has agreed to develop a number of workshops with Istanbul Technical University focused on basic capabilities in robotic construction for university students throughout Turkey. These workshops with the first to take place in the summer of 2018 will be intended to generate robot manufacture of a number of walls in cement blocks and bricks. These experimental walls are intended to be built quickly on site mixing lightness and structural capability for different applications within a building.
