Data Driven Architecture for Healthy Urban Environments GAD Foundation organises IAAC Global Summer School in Istanbul 2019.The GAD Foundation continues its activities in architectural education as organisers of the Barcelona based Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia's Global Summer School in Istanbul in 2019.The two week class was hosted by the Architecture Department of Kadir Has University and led by a team of teachers including IAAC alumni Seda Tugutlu (GAD) and Mehmet Berk Bostancı,Gokhan karakus of GAD Foundation, Sabri Gokmen of Kadir Has University and Seyda Dana of Bahcesehir University.
A group of international students used open source hardware and software to build environmental sensors. Using these sensors equipped with Arduino boards they then took measurements in the Haliç area focusing on urban health issues such as the amount of dust, gas, moisture in the air as well as noise and vibration.
The accumulated data was then mapped to better understand the city and it's environment using analytic scientific tools and methods for a data driven architecture. The data of the workshop revealed high levels of potentially harmful particulate matter&gas in areas near roads and highway that will be revealed in a report published by GAD in 2019.
