Pina

The Aegean Sea and it’s coastal topography remains an inspiration for architecture since classical times. The indigenous landscape with its rocky texture and rolling hills has a strong material and visual character that has influenced building in the area specifically the Aegean coastline of Turkey. Pina is a luxury hotel located in this geography on the Bodrum Peninsula whose architecture reflects the local landscape integrating the natural elements of its site into it’s plan and design strategy. A set of organic planning principles based on branching systems organises the site around a central node acting as the entry and main lobby of the hotel. Undulating fluid forms clad in marble rise up from the landscape opening up slits on this central core as a series of windows. The central pod like volume leads off into a guest rooms that follow the contours of the landscape down to the shoreline and the beach. The existing trees and natural rock formations were retained with the buildings designed around them in a flexible fluid manner opening up the interior spaces to the exterior joining the buildings to the landscape.
