“Nike” by Gokhan Avcioglu reinterprets the ancient Greek deity of Winged Victory - Nike, in contemporary parametric sculpture. Exhibited at the 18th edition of the Contemporary Istanbul art fair that took place from 28 September to 1 October, 2023 at the historic district of Tersane Istanbul, on the grounds of a former Ottoman-era shipyard on the shores of the Golden Horn, the fair featured 75 galleries and initiatives from 22 countries. The abstract geometric sculpture NIKE by Gokhan Avcioglu exhibited on the shoreline portrays a graceful and dynamic representation of the ancient Greek deity Nike, who symbolizes victory and triumph. The sculpture captures the essence of motion and momentum through its intricate arrangement of sleek steel lines and angles as parametric sculpture. The steel composition forms a parametric series of intersecting and overlapping planes, creating a sense of fluidity and movement within a rigid material.
