Tolerance Center, Istanbul

The Tolerance Center is a center for cultural activities, designed for the Besiktas Municipality, with the intention of protecting and promoting Alawi culture. The 1,407m2 site is located in the neighborhood of Levent, Istanbul. The project is composed of a shell structure, based upon triangulated organic structures. The Tolerance Center is represented by a cracking form, and is composed of a concrete structure clad in stone. The resulting space is a fusion between an infinite loop and a mobius strip, which eventually starts again where it ended. The program includes a tot hall, a library, a workshop, technical and storage spaces, a lounge, a kitchen, and a room dedicated to the wise man.
