Rumi / Rumi 3 / Kazan
In collaboration with Dara Kirmizitoprak.
Torque Rumi THREE is a continuation of the Torque Rumi ONE project, and the evolution of the site proposal from a one tower proposal to a three tower proposal. Thus, this is a proposal for three high rise towers in Kazan, Russia. The site for the tower is located adjacent to the bay in downtown Kazan, with views across the water to the historic Kremlin.
The Torque Rumi THREE proposal is a family of three twisting towers organized around a common landscaped garden. The concept for the twisting tower remains, yet the towers are developed as banded volumes, and offset ribbons of stone & glass accentuate the movement in the tower facades upward. The base of the towers is developed as a rippling landscape, and the stepping base structures are a reflection of the movement of the bay. The undulating wall of the retail base envelopes the three towers, and they disappear into the landscape.
The Torque Rumi THREE project includes residential towers sitting on a retail & commercial base. The lower levels will be dedicated to a mall & hotel, and the base steps as it approaches the towers, providing generous outdoor terraces & gardens at the plaza level. The project includes approximately 110K m2 in gross constructed area, and the towers are 27 & 30 floors tall. There are many unit configurations, ranging from 60 m2 to 180 m2.
