Japanese Garden, Istanbul

Japanese restaurants + tea houses in Parkorman Forest, Istanbul - rented by the local municipality for a range of recreational venues
The unique form of the Japanese Garden restaurant complex was inspired by the elegant forms created by dense patches of mist that are created in the forest. The project called for a garden complex with individual sushi and sashimi bars and a teahouse for traditional tea ceremonies situated close to one another. A sleek 400 square meter wooden canopy that mimics the curvilinear form mist visually and physically connects an intimate wooden and glass sushi bar, teriyaki bar, with two tea houses and a noodle bar and shelters them from adverse weather conditions. The canopy doubles as a roof terrace, accessible via a ramp at the entrance to the complex.
